Stressed academic clinicians join NHS

Article Abstract:

Staffing levels in academic dentistry and medicine have fallen to crisis point as a growing number of clinicians have joined the National Health Service in search of an easier life, according to the results of a survey of clinical academic staffing levels published by the Council of Heads of Medical Schools. The survey reveals that the number of clinical lecturers in dentistry and medicine has fallen by almost one third since 2000, with recruiting problems growing as dentists and medics have been increasingly opting for a full-time clinical career.

Academics lose admissions role

Article Abstract:

Academics at colleges and universities in the UK are set to lose control over student admissions as a number of institutions have put in place measures to transfer responsibility for recruitment to central administrators. While some academics claim that this will dehumanise the admissions process, others argue that freeing academics from the burden of admissions will give them more time to devote to research.
