'Customer' students to call tune

Article Abstract:

Sir Howard Newby, chief executive of the Higher Education Funding Council for England, has warned universities that they need to adopt a more businesslike approach and treat students as customers and do more to meet their needs. Others within the university sector have given a mixed response to Newby's statement, noting that while any student who pays a fee for their education will expect to be treated as a client or customer, an university education is about more than simply making people employable.
