Article Abstract:

A.H. Halsey discusses sociology in the 1950s and 1960s, comparing it to today's sociology, in his autobiography. He describes a visiting professor to Cambridge from Harvard in 1995, who was cautiously cheerful about the British future for sociology. However, today A.H. Halsey believes that sociology is in disarray and is no longer one subject.

Researchers rise to the challenge of excellence

Article Abstract:

British universities should be proud that so much of their research has been rated at 5 or higher, which indicates research of international excellence. However, because so many schools have done so well, the government is downplaying the results to reduce the funding that universities have earned.
