The red king is dead, long live the king

Article Abstract:

A critical evaluation of "Main Currents in Marxism" by historian Leszek Kolakowski and an analysis of the lessons its critical evaluation of Marxism and the thinking of Karl Marx holds for modern-day neoconservatives. It is argued that the neoconservative theory of "global democratic revolution", which is currently being tested in Iraq, is simply a right-wing version of the revolutionary utopian theories of the likes of Marx and Trotsky and, like their ideas, it will end in failure but not before needlessly adding to the sum of human suffering.

Vive la difference

Article Abstract:

There is a need for new political ideologies to replace Eurocentric perspectives developed from the Enlightenment. The ideas of the New Right are derived from this 18th century movement as are notions from the political left. Cultural diversity of the modern age renders obsolete much of Enlightenment philosophy. We need a non-standard mode of political thought and to focus on details of political practice if we are to learn to live together.
