The two and a half degrees to domesday
Article Abstract:
Global warming is an issue which affects every person living on the planet yet many people are unsure about what it is, what causes it or what can be done to prevent further warming. Scientists predict that the sea level will rise by half of one meter by 2010 and there will be flooding, droughts and an increasing shortage of water. Countries attending the Earth Summit in 1992 agreed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by the year 2000 but this seems unachievable. The Framework Convention on Climate Change is now trying to reach agreement on emissions after 2000.

Degrees of treachery
Article Abstract:
British universities should avoid sending any of their students on courses held in nations ruled by dictators as they may be open to being recruited as spies. A variety of techniques were used in East Germany during the Cold War, such as blackmail, to force students to become Stasi agents. British universities may need to help MI5 on some occasions in order to prevent their establishments being used as cover by foreign agents. Students who had attended East German universities may find they have a Stasi record.

Jobs for graduates: are degrees needed?
Article Abstract:
Employment data since 1970 revealed increasing underemployment among college graduates. However, the wage increases manifested in 1980 among these groups did not result from a shortage of college graduates but from economic restructuring which affected the earning capacity of high school graduates.
