Too cool for school and its downhill from there

Article Abstract:

While universities in the United States are exhibiting concern about the growing disparity between the numbers of men and women applying to study, their counterparts in the United Kingdom are not so concerned, arguing that it is not necessary to have an equal gender balance on all courses. Universities in the UK contend that the real challenge is to get more boys from working-class families into university, and the challenge there is to overpower working-class peer groups where learning is not perceived as a "cool" thing to do.

Sick puppies, chief nipple twisters and the King of gall wasps

Article Abstract:

An overview of some of the more peculiar names given to animal species by their discovers is made in the light of the online ZooBank initiative launched by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature, which aims to bring all records of existing animals under one roof and monitor the naming of new ones. It is argued that ZooBank will simplify the taxonomic process but, claim those responsible for the initiative, the do not expect to stamp out the giving of silly names to new discoveries.
