Article Abstract:

Advice for college faculty and university admissions staff on how to assess the potential of candidates for university places. Tips include taking the result of A levels seriously, but not looking on them as the be-all and end-all; looking for enthusiasm for the subject in the candidate; testing the candidate's flexibility of thought; taking into account the candidate's educational and personal context; and not being distracted by any nerves or hesitancy displayed by the candidate.
