Unfinished business

Article Abstract:

Women have gained a lot of ground in recent years in terms of education and economic independence, although they still bare the main responsibility and cost of childcare. Childcare is very expensive and time-consuming, so that the responsible female is at a distinct disadvantage with the workplace competition. Men, who do not generally help with this aspect of family life, would only gain responsibility and lose freedom in the market place. It is argued that women are not as powerful as popularly believed because they have not yet managed to share these childcare costs equally with men.
