Violent students terrorise staff

Article Abstract:

Lecturers are facing a growing risk of violent attack, harassment or intimidation from their students, according to a pilot study conducted by Deborah Lee of Derby University. The research uncovered cases of knives and a gun being found in halls of residence and one case where a student threatened to stab her lecturer. Leaders of lecturers' unions stated that the problem was increasing as a result of a rising number of students, declining staff-to-student ratios and an increase in the pressure on students to succeed at university.
