War, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing...

Article Abstract:

Daily Telegraph PLC Defence Editor John Keegan believes sometimes wars have to be fought although he considers peace should be maintained if at all possible. Keegan points out many nations go to enormous lengths to resist becoming involved in a war. He acknowledges some people seem to like wars. Keegan was a lecturer a Sandhurst for 25 years prior to joining The Daily Telegraph newspaper. He also acted as an advisor in the Gulf War. Keegan, who is 63 years old, is due to give the prestigious 1998 Reith lecturers.

Article Abstract:

Proponents of the study of English claim that such university courses provide students with demonstrable skills, such as oral and written communication skills, problem-solving skills and autonomous learning skills. Making English courses more vocationally oriented would suppress originality and creativity, while English graduates already have similar employment prospects as business studies graduates. Most English courses are offered in conjunction with another subject and students work with various disciplines.
