What the numbers really mean

Article Abstract:

The Southern Regional Education Board, a consortium involved in improving the academic achievement of students, has formulated a performance evaluation strategy that helps analyze the competence of students to determine their employability. The plan includes goal setting, bench marking, self-assessment and the implementation of program improvement. The data thus obtained should be supplemented with qualitative assessments to interpret the results and enhance student performance.

Beyond testing

Article Abstract:

An ideal, flexible assessment of students, based on their level of education or training, is necessary to measure their academic fitness and job readiness. The assessment standards should be clear and must lay emphasis on performance-based tasks. Career-Technical Assessment, a newly formulated high-stakes performance assessment model, has been proved effective but has to be readily accepted and implemented by the states.

Body of evidence

Article Abstract:

Portfolios are selected collections of the work of students, compiled over a period of time, and are gaining importance in the assessment of the students' employment potential. They depend on the area of the curriculum and can be in various forms. They help improve self-assessment and are more appealing when formally assessed against national standards.
