Why should 'dead authors' descendants steal the livelihood of living writers?

Article Abstract:

Issues relating to claims from a new generation of academics that literary estates are imposing restrictive copyrights that amount to censorship are examined. It is argued that copyright restrictions limit the sales of works and tend to reduce the variety of books on offer and that the withholding of material by literary estates impedes the development of different perspectives on a literary work.

UK historian Sir Peter Hall has a passion for London and believes London has a dynamism and vibrancy which other cities lack. Hall is one of the world's leading city historians and has played a major role in UK urban planning. He will soon start as director of London's Institute of Community Studies.
