Young, gifted and on a boat out of Ulster

Article Abstract:

Northern Ireland loses many students to mainland Britain, and those who go away to study do not always return. Protestants are more likely to leave, and this is one factor contributing to an increase in the proportion of Catholics in Northern Ireland. Many Scottish universities have sought students from Northern Ireland, and Dundee University has a high proportion of Northern Irish students. Queens University, Belfast, Northern Ireland, has seen an increase in the proportion of Catholic students.

All the prisoners hope their educational achievements in prison will help them gain employment once they leave. The Open University registers around 40-50 long term prisoners each year.
