'Instead of teaching the same courses to the same cynics, you could engage with the public in return for extra money, teaching remission or both'

Article Abstract:

An analysis of ways to raise the general public's level of scientific literacy and arguments about whether the scientific community is doing enough to engage the general public in discussion and debate. Examined is the idea of universities and colleges using their facilities in the evenings and at weekends to engage the public in debate, thereby putting an human face on science and possibly even generating a little extra revenue.

Sainsbury's review role raises questions

Article Abstract:

Lord Sainsbury will lead a major review of science and innovation and this has led to questions over how much power will be transferred to his successor as Science Minister, Malcolm Wicks. Lord Sainsbury resigned as Science Minister after eight years.
