...believe we must stop using the b-word in the academy

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the increasing tendency for adults in the workplace to perceive themselves as being bullied and as victims. Particular attention is paid to the academic world which, it is argued, is suffering from creeping infantilisation as academics succumb to the idea that they are victims and, as a result of this, increasingly whinge about how their feelings have been hurt instead of actively setting out to deal with their problems.

Think out of the box

Article Abstract:

Research by the Economic and Social Research Council reveals that demoralisation amongst academics in the United Kingdom is higher than among any other professional group in the country. It is claimed that modern working practices, including the increased casualisation of the workforce and the apparently entrenched segmentation of the sector as a whole, are largely to blame for the demoralisation of academic staff.

The university of hard knocks and heartache

Article Abstract:

An overview of a survey which revealed the extent to which bullying goes on amongst employees in the higher education sector in the UK. The survey found that bullying is common in universities in the UK and that, while universities do have anti-bullying policies, there is only minimal effort to enforce them meaning that bullies tend to get away with their behaviour.
