15 communication outfits enter media distribution deal

Article Abstract:

Fifteen Japanese communication equipment manufacturers have collaborated to form the Mobile Media Distribution Service (MMDS) Terminal Manufacturers Liaison Council. The organization was established to spread and promote music distribution services through the use of Personal Hand Phone System (PHS) and portable phones. It also aims to set standards for distribution systems and for terminal tecnology. Most of the founding members of the MMDS Council are manufacturers of portable phones and PHS.

Field test sets tone for waveless music distribution

Article Abstract:

Members of the Waveless Radio Consortium are in the process of evaluating a waveless music transmission system that is capable of distributing musical data across networks. The system, which could enter practical use by Mar 2000, has the potential to serve as a standard for content-data distribution and the packaged-software business. Members of the Waveless Radio Consortium, which is based in Tokyo, Japan, include NTT Communications and Victor Company of Japan Ltd.

Blended divisions to fortify Panasonic's broadcast systems

Article Abstract:

Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd and its subsidiary, Matsushita Communication Industrial Company Ltd, are merging their broadcast systems divisions. Thus, Matsushita Electric's Video Systems Div will integrate its operations with Matsushita Communication's Broadcast Systems Div. The new unit will then be known as AVC Co's Broadcast Systems Div which will focus on improving DVCPro and multiple-format video cameras' product lines.
