Bridge over troubled waters

Article Abstract:

Corel's future is in question following the resignation of CEO Michael Cowpland, a slowdown in sales of its flagship WordPerfect and CorelDRAW, and its failed merger with Inprise/Borland. The company was forced to layoff 20% of its employees as it reported a large 2nd qtr 2000 loss and further losses in the 3rd qtr. Interim CEO Derek Burney sought to allay fears saying that the company will maintain its long-time relationship with the legal market. Corel is currently focused on developing Linux applications.
