Digital storage, mobile music swoop across U.S. audio arena

Article Abstract:

Digital audio players that are capable of compressing music to 1/12 of their original level were the top-selling items in the US market in the 1st qtr of 2000. More mobile models of the devices, which uses the MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 (MP3) standard, are expected to be released accordingly. These will include an MP3 player from Rockford Fosgate, the DVD2000 player from AcceleVision and the CQ-DVR909 combination CD and DVD player from Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd.

Sony's upcoming MD recorder downloads music from satellites

Article Abstract:

Sony Corp will introduce in Japan on Jun 21, 1999 a combination MiniDisc player and recorder that can download music from a digital communications satellite. The new MDS-DL1 features the i.LINK interface for connecting to the DST-MS9 receiver for SkyPerfectTV's communications satellite digital broadcasts. It will carry a manufacturer's suggested retail price of 59,000 yen. The company plans to manufacture 2,500 units a month.

Toshiba, IBM speed tempo of digital music distribution

Article Abstract:

International Business Machines Corp (IBM) and Toshiba Corp have partnered in which IBM's Electronic Media Management System (EMMS) will be incorporated into Toshiba's upcoming portable audio players. The Toshiba EMMS-equipped audio devices will users to download and play EMMS music content with copyright protection. These portable audio players will roll out in spring of 2000.
