HVDC intertie restored after double disasters
Article Abstract:
Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power, Bonneville Power Administration and Siemens Energy and Automation Inc. worked together to rebuild and replace the Pacific Northwest-Pacific Southwest HVDC intertie. The intertie was closed due to converter damage from a fire in Oct. 1993 and the Jan 1994 Northridge earthquake. The intertie has been back in service since Nov 1995.

On the curious monikers of wildflowers
Article Abstract:
Wildflowers have been named for a variety of reasons which include resemblance with other things edibility, mythological association and romance among others. But the pretty Lousewort, which is also fortunately called Wood Betony, seems unjustly named by farmers who coined the name.
