High-Tech components stack up to Most Advanced cellular phones

Article Abstract:

Improvements in circuit component technology has led to the evolution of even smaller but superior cellular telephone systems. The present 1 x 0.5mm standard design for ultra-miniature chips is expected to become even smaller as competitive pressures in the industry continue to push manufacturers to design better but less expensive products. Further development of surface-mount technology-compatible chip components is expected to continue as it remains as the best technology available to manufacturers.

ITU pushes IMT2000, paving way for wireless TV phones

Article Abstract:

The establishment of the standards for International Mobile Telecommunication 2000 (IMT2000) is expected to result in the proliferation of wireless audio-visual equipment. The IMT2000 standards, which were developed by the International Telecommunications Union, are expected to make devices for face-to-face communications commonplace. An important aspect of IMT2000 is code division multiple access, a system that is essential for transmitting multimedia information.

LANs gain some ground; switches show strength

Article Abstract:

Japanese shipments of local area networks (LANs) between Apr and Sep 1998 have increased 0.7% to 99.6 billion yen. The slight advance, however, is a sharp departure from past trends of 40% annual growth and is attributed partly to the Asian economic crisis. Shipment breakdown by product category showed that LAN switches topped all other categories, with a 53.8% increase in volume and 42.1% hike in value.
