In Japan, wide-screen TVs go progressive

Article Abstract:

Wide-screen TVs in Japan are adopting progressive scanning technology. Progressive sets that can receie high-definition digital broadcasts account for 70% of all wide-screen color TVs in Japan. However, progressive-scanning characterizes only 2% of color TVs with 4:3 aspect ratios. Manufacturers are racing to enhance their product lines in time for the start of test services for the digital broadcast satellite system in Jun 2000. Among those that are readying their wide-screen set offerings are Hitachi, Toshiba Corp, Sony Corpp, Matsushita Electric Industrial Company Ltd and Sony Corp.

Article Abstract:

Samsung Electronics Japan Company Ltd has introduced the Tantus 25F1BROADCAST SATELLITE flat TV equipped with a broadcast satellite tuner. Samsung employs a 25-in pure flat CRT with a super-pigment system. The CRT is able to reproduce fine images with less distortion, eliminating image noises with 3-D Y/C separation. The product has a two-way four-speaker system capable of middle and high frequency sound with a maximum output of 20W.

Sony Corp./Sony Marketing (Japan) Inc

Article Abstract:

Sony Corp will introduce the most recent models of the DR series of its WEGA line. The new series uses the FD Trinitron flat picture tube which enable viewers to see distortion-less, natural pictures. The series also employs the Digital Reality Creation Multi-Function which combines the company's technology for converting normal NTSC and other pictures to 4X density real images which approximate Hi-Vision picture quality.
