Infineon shifts focus -- Without a DRAM ally, will seek telecom partner

Article Abstract:

Infineon Technolgies, the former semiconductor group of Siemens, has been trying to increase their DRAM business without much success. They are having trouble finding a company willing to work with them on a jooint venture. In addition,Infineon is accusing Micron Technologies and Samsung of causing a glut in the DRAM market. Infineon will continue with a venture with IBM in France where they will concentrate on logic devices. A deal is tentatively in the works with Motorola to purchase a share in Motorola's DRAM fab. In the meantime Infineon will also concentrate on semiconductor products particularly with telecommunication products where they are a market leader.

Gas management confronts materials, cost and service issues

Article Abstract:

Gas management firms are seeking to fulfill demand for new materials and higher quality at less cost, while they try to cope with the acceleration in design rule shrink as well as the DRAM market. It is anticipated that in the next three years, the industry will have to contend with corporate consolidations and strategic alliances, as well as a persisting evolution of materials, with copper, high- and low-k dielectrics and related materials gaining importance. These companies will also have to consider environmental and materials handling concerns, as they already do now.
