The business methods of Rent-A-Center have been documented in a research report by Kidder, Peabody & Co. Buying is facilitated by the company's status as a national account of major consumer electronics suppliers. Stores average two thousand square feet and require $300,000 investment the first year. No down payment is required of customers who are given the option to buy after sixty nine weeks of rental.

Federated Frolics: Pulling in Profits the Specialized Way: Tobey Takes it On

Article Abstract:

Federated Group chairman Wilifred Schwartz has formed a new division, Specialized Retailing Inc., to diversify into new areas of retailing. One possibility that is being studied is computer only stores. Federated is also looking into acquisitions. The company reported record gains for the fiscal year ended 02-29-84.
