Car crazy: we can no longer afford a car-dominated world

Article Abstract:

The car-dominated environment that emerged after World War II had the objective of providing the average American with a mode of transport and served as an instrument of democracy and human progress. However, the catastrophic effects of a car-centered habitat which included the deterioration of city life, air pollution, the degradation of civic space and the enormous amount of money spent on police, stoplights and parking facilities necessitate changes. It is imperative, therefore, to construct a high quality habitat that will allow people to live in dignity.
