Matsushita AVC subsidiary in China gears up to make DVD players for export

Article Abstract:

China * Hualu Matsushita AVC Co (CHMAVC) will start production of DVD players in FY 2001, destined for export markets. CHMAVC is a 50-50 joint venture between China Hualu Electronics and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd, based in Dalian, Liao Ning Province, China, starting out as a manufacturer of VCRs. The company also plans to produce 2.5 million optical pickups for DVD players and 5 million optical pickups for DVD-ROM drives. These production plans would be supported by a 1.5 billion yen capital investment in FY2000 and FY2001.

JVC Shanghai plans to expand production of DVD players to 2 million units a year

Article Abstract:

JVC Shanghai Electronics plans to increase production of DVD players to 2 million units annually, starting FY2001. The company is the Chinese subsidiary of Victor Company of Japan and is based in the Outer Gaoqiao Free Trade Zone in Shanghai, China. About 40% of its DVD output is sent to the US, another 30% to Europe, 12% to Japan and 10% to other regions. JVC Shanghai has also established a R&D facility for the development of products that are more suitable to the Chinese market.

JVC will make camcorders in China, start to finish

Article Abstract:

Victor Company of Japan (JVC) is planning to begin comprehensive production of Digital Videocassette camcorders in China by FY2001. The rising demand in China and cost competition in Japan and the US have prompted JVC management to start comprehensive production in China. The Chinese facilities are already into partial assembly operations for some of its DVC camcorders. JVC is initially offering affordable models in Japan and the US.
