Merging utilities handle disparate EMSs

The planned merger between Gulf States Utilities Co. and Entergy Corp. will enable both utilities to create a formidable energy management system (MS). The two companies are expected to consolidate their respective EMSs to form a new system that will facilitate better power line control.

Electric utilities are expected to demand more circuit breakers with on-line condition monitoring. Although circuit breaker manufacturers argue that such an added feature will entail added costs and prices, they agree that preparations have to be made to meet the demand.
