Applied CEO talks about downturns, strategy and partnering

Applied Materials CEO and Chmn of the Board James C Morgan believes that the market for semiconductor devices will continue to expand with the products' increasing applications. He observes that the semiconductor market has come to include computer manufacturers, telecommunication companies. consumer products manufacturers and Internet service providers. Morgan is confident that this trend will continue if equipment manufacturers can cope with end users' increasing stringent requirements.

New KLA-Tencor CEO talks about industry, future

The company also aims to take yield management to the next level through the delivery of complete solutions for entire process modules. The company is also focusing on software packages, but not at the expense of the hardware solutions.

Novellus CEO Richard Hill looks at growth and competition in the equipment industry

Novellus Systems CEO Richard S. Hill said the boom-and-bust cycle characterizing the semiconductor industry can be mitigated by targeting the supply side. In the equipment sector, Hill believes that cyclicality can be mitigated by diversification of some product types. Meanwhile, Hill said an organizational restructuring has made the company more responsive to the needs of its customers.
