Phones in '84: Security

Article Abstract:

Security features are becoming increasingly important to the discriminating phone shopper. Many consumers have not yet been exposed to telephone security products and they make up a large potential market. Anova's modular Telephone Center has sensors to trip smoke and fire alarms, auto dial programming with prerecorded help messages, alarms warning of intrusion and appliance control features. IMM's Prive Code system allows owners to identify incoming calls.

Divestiture, Product Diversity Should Keep Phones Ringing in '84

Article Abstract:

Phone retailers and manufacturers are expecting 1984 to be a year of scrambling for a share in a growing telephone market. Despite price erosion the outlook for the year is good. Projections for sales of corded phones range from twenty to forty million units. For cordless phones the range is between eight and twelve million units sold. Answering machines are expected to sell two and a half million units.

Phones in '84: Plugging into New Profit Centers

Article Abstract:

Phone retailers are counting on a range of phone-related categories for additional sales and profits. Among these are security products, interconnect, cellular mobile phones, service and beepers and pagers. The new products require trained salespersons, technicians and expensive equipment.
