Preferred route goes right through sensitive wetland

Article Abstract:

The Snohomish Public Utility District in Everett, WA, installed a 9-mi., 115-kV, double-circuit transmission line which passes through wetlands and the Snohomish River delta with minimal impact to the areas' ecology. Specialized positioning and vibro systems, helicopters and vegetable oil were used instead of their environmentally hazardous alternatives.

SVC maintains stability, increases capacity

Article Abstract:

The Western Area Power Administration installed a static VAr system at its South Dakota substation to enhance voltage stability and minimize line problems. The system is equipped with a static VAr compensator which is comprised of a thyristor-controlled reactor and fixed capacitors.

Cable splicers work in cage 60 ft above ground

Article Abstract:

BICC Cables Corp. supplied and installed terminations and cross-linked polyethylene cables for Orlando Utilities Commission electric substations. BICC developed a cage that can be lifted up to 60 ft. to provide access to overhead lines and cable splicers.
