Sanyo Powers up battery facility investments, for global growth

Article Abstract:

Sanyo Electric Company Ltd of Japan intends to spend 27 bil yen in 1998 to improve its facilities for producing lithium ion and Ni-MH rechargeable batteries. Most of the investment is expected to be used in the construction of a new facility located in Building D of the company's Tokushima factory. Sanyo's lithium ion battery producction, currently at 8 mil cells yearly, is expected to increase to 12 mil cells in FY1998 while Ni-MH annual prodcution will remain at 18 mil cells.

Toshiba packs power of global network into battery plans

Article Abstract:

Toshiba Battery Co Ltd of Japan sold about 1.52 billion rechargable batteries in FY1997, a figure that is 15% greater than the company's previous-year performance. The firm's rechargeable battery line include nickel cadmium (Ni-CD), Ni-MH and lithium ion batteries. Toshiba's Ni-Cd battery, with 700 million cells sold during FY1997, remains as the firm's best seller while 590 million Ni-MH and 230 million lithium ion batteries were also sold for the period.

Toshiba Battery stalks 30% of Ni-MH, 16% of lithium ion markets

Article Abstract:

Toshiba Battery Company Ltd, which manufactures mostly lithium ion and nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable batteries, is targeting to capture around 16% of the global market for lithium ion rechargeable batteries and 29% to 30% of the global market for Ni-MH batteries in 1999. Ninety-five percent of the Ni-MH batteries produced by the company, as well as most of its lithium ion batteries, are exported overseas.
