Article Abstract:

A number of electronic information storage devices aimed at the small office/home office customer have been introduced in the market. These include magnetic media such as the ORB drive and the 2.2GB ORB disk from Castlewood Systems as well as the 2GB Jazz format from Iomega. Others include the 'cardportORB' drive from CNF Mobile Solutions, 12x CD-RW drives from Acer, LaCie, Imation and TDK and DVD-RAMs from Panasonic, QPS and Hitachi.

Alphine Electronics recently rolled out its newest Global Positioning System (GPS) navigator for motor vehicles, the NVE-N851A DVD PowerNav System. Touted to be ten times faster than the company's CD-ROM system, the DVD navigator offers the capability to calculate a route from Los Angeles, CA, to New York, NY, in 15 seconds. The device also offers a dual-layer, 8.5GB DVD-ROM; more detailed point-of-interest data; more detailed voice guidance prompts, and others.

Scanner evolution: making it easier

Article Abstract:

Manufacturers are rolling out flat-bed scanners that can easily be operated by non-technical users. Many of the scanners on the market have push buttons and other external controls that perform automated functions, such as directlyt scanning to e-mail, scanning to fax, performing optical character reading (OCR), and others. Some flat-bed scanners on the market includes the HP ScanJet 3300C from Hewlett-Packard; Agfa's SnapScan Touch; OneTouch 8600 from Visioneer; Astra 2200 from UMAX; Perfection 1200 Series from Epson; and Mcrotek's ImageDeck scanner.
