Service providers, vendors prepare for digital take-off

Article Abstract:

The demand for digital consumer electronic products is expected to reach their peak in Europe and the US in 2000 due to the existence of digital terrestrial broadcast in those regions. The demand for the products in Japan is expected to be further buoyed by the availability of digital broadcasts in the country by Dec 2000. In anticipation of the coming digital age, manufacturers are preparing the release of set-top boxes in summer 2000 to stimulate consumer demand for new color television sets.

TV techniques take off in all directions: big, wide, flat, digital

Article Abstract:

Digital television broadcasting is being rolled out in several parts of the world and vendors are ready with their solutions. In the US, a few TV broadcasters have begun sending out digital broadcasts, prompting consumer electronic companies to release digital high-definition TVs such as projection-format CRTs with 34- to 65-inch screens. Other companies, however, believe that there is also a market for direct-view, large- screen, flat CRTs.
