Shipments of color TVs in Japan show slim hike
Article Abstract:
Color TV shipments in Japan rose slightly in Nov 2000, compared to shipments in the same period in 1999. According to the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Assn, shipments for the month totaled 972,000 units, up 1.1%. From Jun through Nov 2000, shipments of TVs with built-in broadcast satellite digital tuners totaled 81,000. Shipments of broadcast satellite digital tuners alone for the period hit 123,000 units.

Sales of color TVs in Japan in Mar 2000 increased 4.7% to 1.02 million units, echoing sales of 1.394 million units in Dec 1999. In Jan 2000, sales increased 9.2% to 590,000 units, while in February they grew 10% to 717,000 units. Sales in April rose 5% from the same period in 1999. Industry observers associate the positive sales trends to consumers' anticipation of the digital satellite broadcasts that will start in Dec 2000.

Color TV shipments rise, breaking out of 3-year slump
Article Abstract:
Analysts speculate that color TV shipments in Japan in 1999 reached 0.8 million units, up 3% from 1998. Statistics from the Electronic Industry Assn of Japan showed that domestic shipments of color TVs in Feb 2000 reached 717,000 units, up 10% from the 652,000 units in Feb 1999. The increase is the first double-digit advance in color TV shipments sinc May 1997.
