Six Japanese companies form business for LCD development

Article Abstract:

Advanced LCD Technologies Development Center Co Ltd (ALTEDEC) is the new company formed by six Japanese electronics firms to develop advanced LCD technology. The six companies are Hitachi Ltd, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd, Mitsubishi Electric Corp, NEC Corp, Sharp Corp and Toshiba Corp. ALTEDEC will undertake research and development into energy efficient manufacturing technology to manufacture high-performance active- matrix LCDs, and into advanced basic technology to produce advanced LCDs.

Minolta enters venture for liquid crystal production

Article Abstract:

Minolta Corp's venture to manufacturing reflective chiral nematic plastic liquid crystal is part of the company's strategy that focuses on technology developments for output proceses, optical techniques and various three-dimensional image-processing processes. The company intends to initially produce small- to medium-sized products for mobile phones and personal digital assistants and later expand to making large products for electronic books, electronic newspapers and advertising display panels.

Sanyo to mass-produce full color OEL displays

Article Abstract:

Sanyo Electric Co Ltd plans to begin mass-producing full color organic electroluminescent (OEL) displays in FY2002. The firm aims to expand OEL panels as leading displays comparable to amorphous silicon TFT LCD and low-temperature polysilicon TFT LCD in the display business, which consists of its core operations to support digital and device. Sanyo in Feb 1999 entered into a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Eastman Kodak Co to develop OEL displays.
