Steady growth awaits device production equipment

Article Abstract:

Japanese manufacturers are investing heavily on new facilities and plants due to the rising demand for semiconductors that triggers a corresponding demand for semiconductor manufacturing equipment. This development has resulted in a skyrocketing rise in semiconductor production equipment sales of 89.6% in Sep 1999 as compared to Sep 1998 figures. Most of these investments included DRAM cell capacitors, low-permittivity film, lithography equipment and wiring equipment for logic devices and microprocessor units.

2-digit growth drives compound device materials

Article Abstract:

Statistics released by the Japan Manufacturers Society of Compound Semiconductor Materials reveal that shipments of compound semiconductor materials for 1999 are at record highs. For the first six months of FY1999, shipments increased by 16% in value to 26.609 billion yen in comparison to the same period in FY 1998. The increases are attributable to the rising demand for gallium-arsenide ICs serving in semiconductor lasers and portable phones.

Production tallies decline for devices in Japan

Article Abstract:

Eight major Japanese semiconductor manufacturers say that production has declined sharply during the first half of FY 1998. The total production for the seven companies was 13.6% lesser than the production during the same period in FY 1997. According to analysts, the production drop is due to falling memory prices and the Asian economic crisis. The eight manufacturers expect their combined production total to drop 7.9% by the end of FY 1998.
