Electric utilities spend less time erecting substations because of design improvements. The new substations also help utilities save money because of lower maintenance and installation costs. Several substations are pictured.

Motor-assisted storage saves valuable space

Northeast Utilities (NU) uses one computer system to manage inventories in all of its storerooms. NU's system includes 30 mechanical stacking systems, 2,500 cabinets, and 125 modular storage cabinets.
