Technics bow affordable DTS

Article Abstract:

Technics rolls out 5.1 channel system packages that support both the DTS surround sound and Dolby Digital. Included in the introductions are two home theater packages, the SF-DX6 which retails for $599.95 and the $499.95 SRP-priced SF-DX720, a Panasonic DVD player with Dolby/DTS digital output and Technic's new microsystem called SC-HD55. The Panasonic player will be available in May 1998 for $749.95 SRP while the microsystem, which is equipped with Class A amp Circuitry and a pair of two way speakers cabinets, will by available by the end of July at a price of $599 SRP.

In speakers, flat is phat at CES

Article Abstract:

Audio manufacturers launched flat-panel speakers during the 1999 Consumer Electronics Show in response to video makers' challenges to accommodate flat-panel monitors. Acoustic Research debuted its wall-hanging speaker line called the Phantom Series, which will start shipping in Feb 1999. Other flat-panel loudspeakers introduced included the FPS-1000 from Infinity, the Mission x-Space series and Benwin's NXT-licensed flat-panel satellite and subwoofer speaker system.

12-volt industry raids spring break

Article Abstract:

Auto entertainment electronics suppliers exhibited their wares at the Spring Break Nationals in Daytona Beach, FL. Sony, a first-time participant, drove a new Xplod van to promote its new Xplod line. Blaupunkt, a regular attendee, was on hand with its DigiCeiver line. Jensen's booth featured scantily-clad women throwing T-shirts into the crowd. Other exhibitors were Alpine, JVC and Clarion.
