India's transmission reform shatters federal lock on projects

Article Abstract:

India has modified its electric power transmission laws to permit the entry of private and foreign investments for electric power transmission projects. It is hoped that this will improve the country's power transmission system and provide a more reliable power supply for its people.

Electric utilities are considering alternative sources of revenue in view of the discouraging future predicted for domestic growth and the looming deregulation. The National Electrical Contractors Association can assist utilities in gaining national accounts.
