What's Ahead? Retailers Cautious at Intersection of First and Second Halves: Shifting into High

Article Abstract:

Spring sales for consumer electronic retailers were disappointing. Predictions were for greater volume and inventories are now higher than anticipated. Retailers aer entering the summer selling season with caution. Retailers are concerned about the state of the economy. Video Movie cameras and VCRs are the hot items for the summer. Audio dealers are concentrating on big volume items such as personal stereo. Matched audio-video equipment represents a new merchandising vehicle.

Audio-Video Marriage Could Be Key to Maximizing Midi's Sales

Article Abstract:

The audio market is growing well, but midi sales have been disappointing. One problem is price. Complete midi systems run for over $1000, and retailers believe that the price must fall to the $600 level before the products start selling. The midis are a mass merchandise item. Several suppliers are bringing new midi systems to the market, while others have no plans to introduce the products.

Retailers on VCR, Cameras and Videodisc Player Sales: The Sky's the Limit

Article Abstract:

Retailers say VCRs, CED and laser players are continuing to move at record setting levels. VCR sales are up between thirty and fifty per cent from the same time last year. Demand for VCRs is split between high and low-end products. Dealers of videodiscs report a sales increase of fifty per cent.
