Why distribution-line switches are difficult to automate

Article Abstract:

It is difficult and expensive to automate distribution-line switches since the switch, the switch actuator and other components must be integrated. Utilities have launched pilot programs to develop efficient and low-cost methods of automating distribution-line switches.
