Article Abstract:

The 1999 Consumer Electronics Show highlighted mobile video equipment, such as DVD players that can be installed in automobiles. Another popular item at the show was the Eclipse Commander, a multimedia product for cars that uses speech recognition technology in tandem with Global Positioning System navigation and two-way communication. Speakers did not play a major role in the show, but new subwoofers by JBL attracted a lot of attention.

Article Abstract:

A 1998 Honda Civic EX has a system which produces a clear and detailed sound. The Eclipse model 5303R CD receiver is installed in the middle of the deck and signals to a pair of Xtant Model 4180x amplifiers mounted in the trunk. The system placed third in sound quality at the IASCA stereo show.
