Appraising the performance of performance appraisals

Article Abstract:

A growing number of U.S. corporations are exploring alternatives to the annual performance review, which is regarded by many as a flawed and inadequate management tool. Appraisals are seen as especially inappropriate for judging engineers and other professionals, who often work as members of teams, working on projects of variable duration.

Special agent Larry Depew, a supervisor at the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Washigton, D.C., head quarters is not provided with enough information that is required for his investigation. The reasons for the failure of FBI's Virtual Case File (VCF) software project are mentioned.
