Bearing takes over reducer tasks

Article Abstract:

Electro Mechanical Systems has recognised the potential of ball bearings for replacing epicyclic speed reducers. The innovation was discovered during the development of linear actuators but has unlimited industrial application. Criteria in actuator development included cost savings and reliability. Engineers wanted the benefits of epicyclic reducers without the associated problems of gearing facilities.

New bearing beats all misalignment: for the first time, a rolling element bearing can accept both angular misalignment and axial displacement. A by-produce of the design is unparalleled load capacity

Article Abstract:

A new type of rolling element bearing offers the axial misalignment properties of cylindrical roller bearings, the radial misalignment properties of spherical roller bearings and the low profile height of needle roller bearings. The Compact Aligning Roller Bearing (Carb) technology is suitable for applications that have performance, reliability or cost problems because of shaft alignment problems.

Bearing query? Call in the experts

Article Abstract:

Manufactures should advise on bearing selection in engineering design. Technological advances have increased available options. Early involvement of the sales engineer could allow consideration of alternatives. Technological developments include noise reduction, production of heavy duty and self-aligning bearings and corrosion resistant coatings.
