Cars get street smart

Article Abstract:

Innovations in automotive technology are making headlines as there are now cars that drive themselves, making use of transponders for vehicle-to-vehicle communication, which will alert a car if another vehicle is nearby to avoid possible collision. The giants in the automotive industry, including Ford, Chrysler, Honda, General Motors, and Toyota, are planning to equip vehicles and intersections with communications system. The U.S. Department of Defense's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency plans to have its robotic vehicles by 2015 to use in war to reduce human casualties.
