Office Depot employs an automated, early-warning system for fire-detection requirements at its data center in Delray Beach, FL. The new technology, installed with a laser smoke-detector, features a single-wire/cable system designed for the facility's high-sensitivity spot detection specifications. The fire-detection system also allows quick and simple relocations in the expansion of the building's data-storage space. The data center's main room and subfloor is also installed with a high-underground airflow system.

Fending off false alarms

Article Abstract:

The problem of repeated false fire alarms in a day care center was addressed with the use of a multiplexed detection/alarm-control system. The application-specific fire-alarm smoke detectors were specified because fires are not all alike. The incidence of false alarms were lessened by calibrating the parameters of the detectors to the protected area. Various application settings were used for the different areas of the building and detectors were places in every common hallway.
