Coded warning

Article Abstract:

The main members of the ECA and HVCA have launched a voluntary code of practice which will regulate members' business practices. Members of the group will have to specify finish dates for their work, use normal contracts and have payment terms as specified in JCT contracts. These rules will also be applied to subcontractors. The HVCA's Ductwork Group has also implemented a similar code on its members. Guidance notes have been produced to help members comply with the code. Members cannot be compelled to work within the code and this may cause the system to fall down.

The Electrical Industry Forum's Mission Statement aims to bring all the various constituents of the electrical building services industry together and pursue common aims. It is the first time that the industry has had a single body to support it and the first priority of the EIF is the issue of lifetime value for money to increase competitiveness. The EIF also hopes to influence government decision makers, possibly through the planned Building Services Alliance backed by the DoE.
