Commission control

Article Abstract:

Electrical commissioning is essential to check that the client's specifications are met and to check the system. Commissioning is different from testing and it involves more than just doing a safety inspection. Electrical contractors are likely to do the commissioning for low voltage systems and a time-based plan needs to be prepared. The plan should take account of other contractors' programmes so that work on hvac systems and dates for switching on the power can be co-ordinated.

How we fund the future: with the electrical contracting industry looking for new ways to fund training

Article Abstract:

The electrical contracting industry is concerned about the vocational training standards of its apprentices and needs to reconsider its vocational education and training strategies. Modern apprenticeships are being introduced and there is a requirement to achieve NVQ awards, and prospective 16 year old entrants should be encouraged to undertake full time vocational courses, similar to schemes in the Netherlands and Germany.
