Communicating project status to management - simply

Article Abstract:

Upjohn Co. Fine Chemicals Div. uses the Microsoft Project for Windows to manage individual research projects. All information relevant to the development of new chemical products are stored in the computer, including status reports, Gantt charts, task lists, and technical progress reports. All the information is electronic and can be accessed through a local area network. An interface was developed to enable managers to have a clearer and more concise understanding of the specific information they require.

Successful work process design begins by gathering the right data

Article Abstract:

The objective evaluation data is necessary when developing an effective work process design. Process delays in cycle time should be treated as a systematic problem that requires a modification of all the steps of the work process. The efficiency of work process design can also be improved by enhancing the rate of data acquisition by utilizing computer systems and database interface software. Automating pilot unit controls will also reduce the time needed for testing new processes.
