Cops go infrared to nab night crooks

Article Abstract:

Nine law-enforcement agencies around Dallas, TX will be supplied with more than 50 NightSight infrared (IR) night-vision devices to counter criminality at nighttime. The instruments, donated through grants of $500,000 each from Raytheon Systems Company and the National Institute of Justice, are part of a user-center laboratory research project performed by Dr. Paul Tracy of the University of Texas at Dallas, to measure the effectivity of IR on inner-city and suburban crime-fighting applications. The recepient-agencies will utilize the NightSights in applications that range from search and rescue, surveillance and routine patrols, to narcotics interdiction.

ATM networks and their applications at the NASA Lewis Research Center: a case study

Article Abstract:

Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) is better than traditional networking technologies. It can allocate bandwidth on demand and support various services regardless of bit rates. It has high standards and can adopt technological innovations. ATM also helps in the processes needed for real time and constant bit rate applications. Finally, ATM and synchronous optical network offer bandwidth efficient transport mechanism for various kinds of applications.
