Creativity and improvement: a vital link

Article Abstract:

W. Edwards Deming's profound knowledge outlines the vital interlink between subject matter knowledge and natural creativity to accelerate improvement. Edward de Bono's lateral thinking strategy develops creative thinking tools and methods such as provocation and random entry for use in organizational environments. A case study demonstrates the integration and application of traditional improvement methods and creative thinking methods to achieve quality improvement in a metal cutting process.

Inventiveness is driven by concepts which lead to change and innovation. Ideas feed concepts which become translated into purpose. Industries find it beneficial to modify concepts used in other sectors. New ideas can be explored at random to encourage innovative thought. Ideas can be reused if they are appropriate to organization goals. Automated processes can be used to enhance business organization.
